How this 1-2-1 came to be is pretty crazy. Having a sit down 1-2-1 with the RZA was something that has always been on the top of my mind. Out of all the celeb musicians, I feel RZA is one the most TRUE. What he spits. What he produces. What he embodies. It’s not an act. It’s a way of living. I actually met and worked with him a while ago when we did a Timberland Boot project together. That alone was an honor.
As with other collaborative efforts, I don’t really try and force or rush things. If they are meant to happen—they will.
It was on a random night in LA that I met someone at a party who worked on his management team and the conversation began. The 1-2-1 Interview was now in the works. While that was still formulating, in a completely separate universe of my brain, I was chatting with my friends at Apple about things happening in my life and the RZA talk came up. They thought it would be cool to have Apple be a part of it as well…so we thought, “Wow, a live action 1-2-1! Pretty cool!”
Since RZA lives out in Cali now, we decided to do the 1-2-1 session live at the Apple Store in Santa Monica. Over 100 people came out to see me and The RZA connect on stage at Apple!!! (Can you say “DREAM COME TRUE X 100000?!) After that, The RZA and I went to a secret location very close by to conduct what you see here…1-2-1 w/jeffstaple proudly presents…THE RZA.

Big shout out to Gabe Yeh/0484 Creative who helped out with the video and editing. (Who I found on Twitter!)
Here are some photos the very talented Amanda Lopez took from the Apple event. And a full podcast of the Apple talk can begat here.

(Big thanks to Alice Han for helping to make this happen!)
BONG! BONG!
The perfect marriage of old tech and new art.
I was recently asked by Antenna Magazine to do a special editorial piece on the idea of COLLABORATION. You can read that article here. They also made a video from that same session and while it’s not quite as comprehensive as the article, it gives some insight into my thoughts on colabs. Enjoi. (Vimeo link is here.)
Great infographic about the different parties that are working on how cars in the future will drive themselves. I predict we will be seeing this in our lifetime. I can’t wait!

Rekstizzy’s latest single, “Posted,” off his debut Fake It Til You Naked, rocks Staple gear in his latest video!
“Posted” features two fellow rap brethren, JKey and Hoya. It’s a misogynistic anthem alluding to each emcee’s penchant for hook ups, group sex and Ichi Umi—all while chanting Biggie’s infamous “true fucking players” line as the chorus. The music video itself is a tribute to the early aughts rap aesthetics replete with a black-and-white camera filter, girls in imitation Aaliyah outfits, and posse moments that involve eating food. It’s a highly energetic (and entertaining) performance visual with layers of debauchery supporting the idea of uplifting skirts.”Posted”Performed by Rekstizzy, JKey, and Hoya Produced by YoungHoon Beats Appears on Fake It Til You Naked

I just want to take a moment and share this graphic to all those practicing unprotected sex. You might not understand it but it’s completely true. So realize you need to wrap it up and ladies you need to do your part as well. Baby’s are dangerous!
And for the others who are already parents out there. Laugh.

Enjoy the post from the man himself.

When I was in college, 90% of my hip-hop education came from “89TEC9″—The Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito show. It was on WKCR which was Columbia University’s college radio station. Commercial free and playing from 1am-5am every Thursday night, it was a backpacker’s dream come true.
I would vigilantly stay up every Thursday so I could record the show on my tape deck. Since it was a four hour show, you can’t fit the whole show on the tape, so I’d sit there for the entire 4 hours with my finger on the pause button, waiting for a gem to drop.
In this video, they come back for a reunion to discuss what’s new and what’s old with music. A great watch if you have a free hour.
