As I get older, its more rare to meet new people that I enjoy spending my free time with.
If I made a bar graph of my friends, most would be in the 10-15 years time span and very few would be in the 1-3 years time span. A few exceptions are these guys...

SUBWAY SERIES.

Last week, a bunch of us headed out to Queens to catch the annual Subway Series between the NY Mets and the NY Yankees. Its kind of special this year because for both the Mets and the Yanks, this will be the last Subway Series played in their respective stadiums (Shea and Yankee Stadium) before they both get new fields next season. It was a packed house and lots of shit talking between fans.





After the game instead of fighting the crowds back to Manhattan, we decided to go the opposite direction deeper into Queens; more specifically, Flushing. Got some great Vietnamese past the midnight hour.

NRF SEASON 4 DONE.

The Nike Recess Federation wrapped up its season last weekend with an amazing matchup at Madison Square Garden. Some of you might know...the NRF is a members only basketball league comprised of 100 creative influencers who respectively ball...and shot call. If you're interested in joining for next season which begins around November, give me a shout.

Boyce Rain Poncho
Let's get something straight. Everyone appropriates from the military. In olive drab with some gun powder on it, this belongs smack dab in the midst of battle. But...Turn it into PVC, make it Safety Yellow and all of a sudden, your little cousin Vicki is wearing it to day camp. Now it's our turn.
Yes, it's check. Yes, it is Gingham Check.Yes, it's black and white Gingham Check. Got a problem with that? Other than that, everything is straight from fatigues—with a few key improvements. We've added a zippered stormflap, a kangaroo pouch on the front and snaps along the bottom edge to create something that resembles "sleeves". Waterproofing is still here though. It is after all still a rain poncho. Hey, you used to make fun of men who wore pink once.

そうです、チェックです。しかもギンガムチェックです。白黒のギンガムチェックです。何か問題でも？それ以外はほとんどミリタリーからインスピレーションをもらい、少しだけ改良しました。ジップのストームフラップを付け、前には大きなカンガルーポケットを足し、裾部分にはスナップボタンを付けて必要に応じて「袖」っぽくできるようになってます。もちろん耐水性は残してます。基本的にはレインポンチョなのでね。昔は皆もピンク色を身につける男性のことを笑っていた時期があったでしょ？

Rose Shorts
The local Crew Club used to run through their shorts faster than Mr. Rose could blow his whistle. Weekly runs to S&J Sportswear Shoppe was a common sight. What the team needed was reinforcement on the buttocks and hydration on the quadricep. The result is this pair of shorts made from extremely durable ripstop cotton. Adjustable leg snaps vary the thigh opening. Hydration grommets on the front pockets. Interior key hook so your keys don't become fish food. Hidden mobile phone pocket and abrasion resistant woven back pockets with buttondown flaps. Row, row, row....
地元のボートクラブのメンバーは頻繁に練習用のショーツを買い替えていたのでローズ監督も悩んでいました。近所のスポーツ用品店では毎週のように彼らが目撃されてました。このチームに必要な練習着はおしり部分が補強されていて四頭筋あたりに水を逃がす機能がついているものでした。そこで開発されたのが耐久性にすぐれたリップストップコットンを使用したショーツです。ショーツの裾にアジャスターが付いているので細さが調節でき、フロントポケットには排水口となるハト目が付いてます。内側にキーチェーンフックがついているので水ポチャを防げます。携帯用の隠れポケットと摩耗を防止するためのフラップ付き補強バックポケットも備わってます。さあ、漕いで。

GUNNIN' FOR THAT #1 SPOT.

Congrats to my man Bobbito for his new project Gunnin' For That #1 Spot...a basketball documentary directed by Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys. It releases nationally this weekend.

NIKE STAR CLASSIC.

I'm really impressed that table tennis is being recognized as a legitimate sport and not just a bar room activity. If you ever play table tennis for real...like, SERIOUSLY... You'll understand what I mean. Nike just put out these beautiful Star Classics and revamped with subtle hints of pongism. Peep the outer edge of the outsole...it's like the rubber on a TT paddle. The back also features a very Communist-like TT motif. Better pictures can be seen here. Thanks RX.
最近卓球がただの娯楽ではなく、ちゃんとしたスポーツとして認識されてきていることに感動してます。卓球を本気で、というか、マジでやっている人は僕の言っている事がわかって頂けると思います。ナイキがリリースしたこの素敵なStar Classicsにはピンポン調のモチーフが見え隠れしています。アウトソールの外側を見てください。。まるでラケットのラバーのようです。ヒール部分にはちょっと共産党っぽい卓球のディテールが。こちらでもっと良い画像がご覧になれます。ありがとう、RX。

PUMA SHARK.

My home boy down under, Woody just blessed me with one of the coolest footwear colabs of the season—The Puma Shark x Snkr Frkr Edition. Woody is of course is the founder of Sneaker Freaker. One of the first and best sneaker publications around. What makes a great shoe? First an awesome silhouette-courtesy of Puma. Then a great selection of colors and fabrics. Check on both. Finally, the small details which this shoe has plenty of. The set includes 3 different laces, 2 different sockliners, a poster, a scarf!, and 2 sharktooth medallions. Aussie flavor through and through.

ORIGAMI.

Check out the art of Robert J. Lang. He is an origami specialist, Origami is of course, the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. The goal of this art is to create a representation of an object using geometric folds and crease patterns preferably without the use of gluing or cutting the paper, and using only one piece of square paper. Lang takes the artform to another level. Interested in trying? He even provides the fold lines to follow. Good luck!

STAPLE x LOMO.

We started working with Lomography (aka LOMO), about one year ago now, putting the finishing touches on this project. The set includes an incredible camera called The Colorsplash as well as a massive hardcover photo book with over 1000 images. We asked the entire Lomographic Community at large to submit photos and our team went through the painstaking process of photo editing, art directing and laying the book out.
With Lomographers all across the world aiming their lenses and firing a colored flash burst at any and every given opportunity, you can truly call this a bona-fide positive social contagion—the ultimate global collaboration. But this begs an important question: where does the motivation and inspiration for all of this hyperactivity stem from? We gave our photographers a mission statement. The concept was to follow the guidelines of the Chakras. (Chakras are commonly described, as energy centers in the spine located at major branchings of the human nervous system, beginning at the base of the spinal column and moving upward to the top of the skull. Chakras are considered to be a point of metaphysical and biophysical energy of the human body.)
Chakras are represented by color (and each color happens to correspond to a color flash filter on the Lomo Colorsplash Camera ; )
• Purple Colorsplash Chakra: Peace, tranquility, and closeness
• Blue Colorsplash Chakra: Music, nightlife, parties, and gatherings
• Green Colorsplash Chakra: Nature, Life, and Animals
• Yellow Colorsplash Chakra: Activities, diversions, and sports
• Orange Colorsplash Chakra: Consumption, eating, buying, and collecting
• Red Colorsplash Images: Sex, Passion, Love, and Strength
• Multicolor Colorsplash Images: Don't Care About any Rules

世界中のロモグラファー達があらゆる場面にレンズを向け、カラーフラッシュを炊いてくださったので、これは本家本元のpositive social contagion(社会的にポジティブな影響を広める活動）−究極の世界コラボレーション。これにはとても重要な疑問が持ち上がります：この活発な活動の元となるモチベーションとインスピレーションはどこから来るのだろう？僕達はフォトグラファーたちに目標を提示しました。そのコンセプトはチャクラのガイドラインに従うこと。（チャクラは一般的に人間の背骨にある神経系の枝分かれになる部分に位置するエネルギーセンターで、背骨の元から頭蓋骨の上まで移動します。チャクラは人間の体の抽象的、生物物理学的エネルギーの中心点とされています。）
チャクラは色で識別されます。（そして、それぞれの色がLomo Colorsplash Cameraのカラーフラッシュフィルターにも一致します。）

I am passionate about editorial design. I love paper. Every few years people say "print is dead", but it's proving pretty die hard. One of the visionaries. One of my heroes—George Lois. I recently went to check his retrospective out at the Moma. It's small, but definitely worth a visit. Very, very, VERY few magazines today have the balls to do covers like this. It's a shame...
