Something light to kickstart your weekend!
Happy Friday everyone!
Finally back from hibernation. After 4 years of Berlin winter and I’m now pastier than ever! Thankfully the sun is making a slow come back. 3:30PM sunsets are no more! To celebrate, here’s a beautiful short of the first sunrise in Northern Greenland after 40 days of complete winter darkness. Shot in Ilulissat, Greenland, filmmakers Glen Milner and Ben Hilton captures the annual sun-welcoming ritual of the country’s Inuit population.
Watch it full screen. It’s just that much more impressive.
This is the second instalment of Made By Hand, featuring writer turned knife maker Joel Bukiewicz of Cut Brooklyn. He shares his story about how he came to be a knife maker, and gives wonderful insight about the human element of craft and its artistic potential—while stressing on the merits of hard work and the meaning of handmade. Love.

A couple of weeks ago, our new project DISӔRAN in collaboration with United Arrows (Youth & Beauty) launched in Japan. Design and branding were created in-house at here at Acronym. Check out the lookbook for FW11/12 here. Unfortunately it’s currently only available in Japan, but we’re working on it!

This is probably the best marble run construction I’ve ever seen. It was constructed over a span of 35 years by artist Scott Weaver. That’s serious dedication!. Go visit the Exploratorium if you’re ever in town. Man I miss that city.
Carsten Nicolai, also known as Alva Noto, or Noto is a German artist and musician based in Berlin. He uses “art and music as complementary tools to create microscopic views of creative processes”. He runs a music label called Raster-Noton with Olaf Bender. I’ve been a fan of his work for a while now and I can’t wait to see what he’ll be coming up with next.
A short interview discussing his working process and ideas behind his art.
If you didn’t know, now you know.

Unfortunately, “creationtism” is not a real word. This was seriously hard to bear. I think, perhaps that, teaching evolution may be the least of their problems concerning the American education system… just sayin’.
Earlier this year Tomorrowland got in touch with me for 3 T-shirt graphics. It came as a total surprise and honour as Tomorrowland is a pretty serious company. Anyhoo… I finally got my samples in the mail this week and here they are! It’s pretty much end of season now though, but who knows? Maybe they’re still a few left in the shops!
See the other 2 designs after the jump!

So for those of yous who have no idea what it is that I do (which actually, would probably be the most of yous, since I never did formally introduce myself) other than post random YouTube videos from the dark corners of the interwebs, here it is. My name is Lily Lin and I’m a Taiwanese-Canadian expat² currently living and working in Berlin, Deutschland. I spent most of my days at Acronym as the graphics girl, which keeps me plenty busy and out of trouble. But I also draw silly pictures for other people when they ask me to.
Recently I was approached by Bloomberg Businessweek to do a few illustrations for a column of theirs in this week’s issue. This was my first ‘real’ editorial in a long time and it was a lot of fun. Anyhoo, here are the results and now go get yourself a copy and get smart on business and economics!
(The elements I drew for them, and yes, they asked me to draw Bob Lutz punching a baby polar bear)
