How this 1-2-1 came to be is pretty crazy. Having a sit down 1-2-1 with the RZA was something that has always been on the top of my mind. Out of all the celeb musicians, I feel RZA is one the most TRUE. What he spits. What he produces. What he embodies. It’s not an act. It’s a way of living. I actually met and worked with him a while ago when we did a Timberland Boot project together. That alone was an honor.
As with other collaborative efforts, I don’t really try and force or rush things. If they are meant to happen—they will.
It was on a random night in LA that I met someone at a party who worked on his management team and the conversation began. The 1-2-1 Interview was now in the works. While that was still formulating, in a completely separate universe of my brain, I was chatting with my friends at Apple about things happening in my life and the RZA talk came up. They thought it would be cool to have Apple be a part of it as well…so we thought, “Wow, a live action 1-2-1! Pretty cool!”
Since RZA lives out in Cali now, we decided to do the 1-2-1 session live at the Apple Store in Santa Monica. Over 100 people came out to see me and The RZA connect on stage at Apple!!! (Can you say “DREAM COME TRUE X 100000?!) After that, The RZA and I went to a secret location very close by to conduct what you see here…1-2-1 w/jeffstaple proudly presents…THE RZA.
Big shout out to Gabe Yeh/0484 Creative who helped out with the video and editing. (Who I found on Twitter!)
Here are some photos the very talented Amanda Lopez took from the Apple event. And a full podcast of the Apple talk can begat here.
