Pictoplasma NYC 2011 a festival of artist lectures and presentations, was last week and along with it they featured a “character walk”, exhibitions, installations and art happenings throughout NY that coincided with the festival. I visited 2 out of the 17 that were happening.
Jeremyville’s installation was a collection of ALOT of his work. Including a wall of his “Community Service Announcements” to his latest series of Kidrobot toys the “Thoughts in Jeremyville” mini mini series. It was quite the body of work. If you want a little piece of Jeremyville you can stop by Reed Space and pick up a copy of his free newsletter Jeremyville Raw
Jeremyville SPROUT UP!
Jeremyville will be showcasing his new SPROUT UP! concept, a pop-up art installation that is mushrooming randomly all over the world for fleeting moments. Throwing together fine art editions, one-off originals, 3D figures and products with no respect whatsoever – the commercial/non-commercial divide was yesterday, people.

Following the trip to Jeremyville, I went over to Cappellini NYC to check out the Geneviève Gauckler and Joshua Ben Longo works. I was quite awe stuck by the pieces Longo had there, I had seen his monster skin rugs on the internets awhile back but his other pieces were so lovable and full of life. I instantly fell in love. Sadly Gauckler’s pieces really got lost and didn’t capture my attention especially being surrounded by such dimensional pieces.
Joshua Ben Longo
Joshua Ben Longo makes soft sculptures from materials like felt and cashmere, fusing the art and craft of character design with ideas of desire and curiosity in inappropriate social settings. Cut the atmosphere with a knife!

Geneviève Gauckler
Fur, bones, teeth, paws, grrrr! Geneviève Gauckler’s new characters walk very much on the wild side. You may want to adopt the softer, friendly ones, but they can also be unwieldy and unpredictable. Anyway, none of them shed their hair.
