OCTOBER PAIN.

Are the Yankees choke artists? Maybe, and believe me that hurts to say. Because despite posting a formidable record across the (ridiculous) 162 game season they are once again out of contention, going down in their 5 game series to the Detroit Tigers.

A-Rod comes up blank again with the final strikeout

But leaving loyalties aside, surely it is time for the MLB to expand the first round of the playoffs to a best of 7 series, as they do in the NBA and NHL. There is further weight to this argument given there are only 3 rounds in the MLB playoffs, as opposed to 4 in the NBA and NHL. With the current system a team can dominate the regular season, yet it’s all over with a couple of poor performances. Even in the NFL where it is single elimination in the playoffs, the top teams have a week off and then 2 home games for their shot at the super bowl.

As a fan of both the playoff system, and world soccer’s approach to determining the season’s best team (no playoff system, most points at the end of the season dictates the champion team), surely in the MLB there can be a small compromise to give more weight to the teams who prove to be the best across the entire season.
