Zac pac presents Ron English “Popaganda in Japan” Exhibition.
Contemporary artist, Ron English’s first ever exhibition in Japan. Hiroko and I went to the opening on July 1 at Tokyo’s PUBLIC/IMAGE.3D gallery. The exhibition was presented by ZacPac, a toy store that sells exclusive designer made figurines and collectables. Ron English is an amazing artist, famous for his use of mass media and pop icons to create politically charged and highly satirical visual imagery.
Let me just say, his painting were STUNNING! What’s amazing was that his artworks were funny, cute, eerie, beautiful and compelling all at the same time.
One of Ron’s famous characters is MC Supersized, an obese Ronald MacDonald. A super-duper life size MC Supersized waddled in and blessed us with his presence at the opening. While the adults rushed to take photos with the giant MC Supersized, it left one particular 3 year old girl screaming and in tears. And on that note, he waddled out of the building. I couldn’t really blame the little girl. He was scary!!
Exhibition continues till July 18th. For those of you in Japan, go check it out!!
