KONNICHIWA!

Hi, I’m Tomoka aka Moqs.
Growing up, I moved around a lot and lived in Chicago, Kuala Lumpur, Middlebury (VT) and Florence, Italy. But now I’m back in my hometown Yokohama working at LPH and helping out with Staple Japan. Having lived abroad most of my life, even though my native country is Japan, it still feels foreign to me at times. But I love it here, with all its kinks and quirks and hopefully I’ll be able to show you those tidbits of Japan and other fascinating things I find!!

To start off, I wanted to share with you something that’s started over here.
After the earthquake and tsunami destroyed our Fukushima nuclear power plant and created a shortage of energy, the Ministry of Environment has launched a new fashion campaign, “Super Cool Biz”, an upgrade of the “Cool Biz” campaign from a few years back that encouraged businessmen to leave their ties and jackets at home so that companies could cut down their air conditioning bills.
Now, to further cut energy consumption, Super Cool Biz pushes for corporations and public institutions to set their air conditioning to 28℃ and have their workers wear khakis, sandals (no beach sandals), denim (only if they’re your GOOD jeans), sneakers, tees (clean ones), polo shirts and yes, aloha shirts at their offices. Granted a little bit of tropical color would not be bad for our glum town halls. But I’ve yet to see business men ditch their suits and break out their alohas. Anyone who’s been to Japan in August knows  how dreadfully hot and humid it gets, so I guess we’ll see if our Japanese business men and women will change it up for the summer!

(○= okay, △= depends, ×= not okay, like shorts or tank tops in offices!)
