My friends have been working on setting up an urban farming initiative called Gotham Greens for the past few years. I was just there last week and was amazed at what they’ve been able to accomplish in such a short time. The project belongs to Viraj Puri, Eric Haley, and Jennifer Nelkin.
What they’ve done is constructed a 15,000 ft2 state of the art greenhouse facility on a Brooklyn rooftop, which is the first commercial-scale rooftop, food production facility of its kind in the United States. More information can be found on their website: www.gothamgreens.com
You can buy their produce at Whole Foods Market, D’Agostino’s, Eataly, Union Market and soon on Fresh Direct.

[...] Jeff tipped me off to this. For better or for worse (I think the former), this is the future. Gotham Greens is a hydroponic farmlocated on a rooftop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. They will be growing a diverse range of lettuce, salad greens and culinary herbs. They just began harvesting this month! Tags: Eco, Food, NYC, Trends [...]
