I just saw a special midnight screening of The Shining at Landmark Sunshine Cinemas in NYC. I haven’t seen this classic since I was kid—plus it on TV. So to see it on the big screen was a real treat. It makes you realize what an incredible piece of work it is…or what utter crap is in theaters nowadays. Here’s two of my favorite scenes.

hear, hear. Even the trailers for this masterpiece are a cut above.

Hint to modern Horror film makers:
Suspense.
Screenwriter Todd Alcott just wrapped up a very insightful analysis of the script, from start to finish, over at his blog. If you enjoyed the film, you should take a look; his recaps often help me find a fresh, deeper, take on movies I’ve watched dozens of times.
Won’t Do – J Dilla. He samples a couple of parts from scene 2 up there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkB-tFHQzqI
