Most of my meals, as of late, are usually in the kitchen of the restaurant that I work for, standing in the corner shoveling food into my mouth with no chance to taste it before ‘running back onto the floor’. Nights have been spent serving those who are refueling after a long day of holiday shopping or employees that are decompressing (with the assistance of cocktails) at their company holiday dinner party.
‘Tis the season.
I’ve been able to get away for a lunch here and there which has inspired these “Lunch Today” posts, snapshots into what is usually my favorite meal of the day but lately, my most sacred meal of the day as well.
Today I was craving tacos so I walked over to Hecho en Dumbo. The dining room was so peaceful & quiet that I had to sit, even though I intended on taking the tacos back to work. I’m thankful that I did, cause I discovered that they offer a “Comida Corrida” menu, to be eaten “on the run”. 2 simple courses (including beverage), 10 Bucks and super delicious.
My first course was the Sopa Seca (dry soup), green noodles (cilantro) that have been pan fried with poblanos and queso fresco.
The next course was Cecina con Frijoles, salt cured (thinly sliced & grilled) steak served with frioles and roasted poblanos with cream. This photo does not do the poblanos justice because they were the shining star on the plate.
Again, meant to be simple and quick (I was out within ten minutes), this meal was both but so tasty at the same time.

Hey Boy….
Mhm.. I was passing over and Just saw you choose a “Comida Corrida”.. well.. As a mater of fact he meaning of “Comida Corrida “is not “Meal on he go!”.. ( as some all might imagine )..
The real deal is cause in the Mexican restaurants ( popular ) you have either 2 options:
Ask for a ( already done ) meal
or
From the Chart/Menú
So… The first one ( the already cooked /done/fixed ) meal…. is called “comida corrida” cause they don’t ask you what your next dish will be served but instead.. once you finish the ( for instance ) soup.. they deliver the nex dish ( generally soup is followed by rice, etc ), and everyone knows is cheaper and most of all.. you can be for sure that this option is gonna be hot and ready really fast!!!
so.. there you have friend!
a “Comida Corrida” means.. you will have this menu option from the beginning to the end in a raw! haha
Did you imagined that?
Hope you liked any way!
Very Best!
