A week ago, I was “on tour” with my lovely Grems and his crazy team: Son of Kickand Ntek. We traveled all around Switzerland, three cities in four days.
-Lausanne
-Frauenfeld
-Daben
I love this kind of little trips. It’s short but very intense…

Flat pack / Birch Veneer / Meatball specialists Ikea, has decided to make a cookbook called Hembakat är Bäst (Homemade Is Best). The book surprisingly features some really cool food photography. (Styled by Evelina Bratell and photographed by Carl Kleiner.) The geometric arrangements of ingredients are really different when it comes to the world of cookbooks. Guess what? The book is completely free! Guess what? It’s only available in the kitchen section of Ikea stores — in Sweden! This cool video shows the making of the photos below.
The Fall Classic is here… This year its the Giants vs. the Rangers? Wow. A perfect example why baseball is the hardest game to predict.
In case you haven’t kept up, Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington quickly admitted using cocaine in 2009, knowing he would test positive after a random drug test. His star player, Josh Hamilton was drenched in Ginger Ale instead of the classic bubbly after winning the ALDS because of his past problems with alcoholism.
The Giants… when was the last time a team this overlooked made it to the World Series? Well they do have the freak and these bad boys!
I love toys. I love toys that can slip by my wife as a usable object even more! Though not very functional these days since it uses 110 film. It would have been cool when it was released.
Rin Tanaka’s My Freedamn! 9 is out, and if your just hearing about My Freedamn books now well then good luck on your quest to get all 9. These books showcase the clothing and shoes of decades past, in MF9 you get a look into the 70′s Rock scene and more.
R.Crumb Tees
An extensive collection of Seditionaries clothing is in this book!
A section of Nike trainers in here also.
If your looking to gain some knowledge, get inspired and meet people who love Americana check out Inspiration LA. My wife and I would go but she’ll be giving birth
Last month I took my first vacation in a long while down to Rome. We drove from Berlin, through the mountains of Austria, to the city where an empire was built on some deep familial issues.
We drove from Berlin through Munich, down to Innsbruck (butthole of Austria), by the coast down to Cinqueterre (where I was convinced I was going to meet my maker in a thunderstorm), passed by Pisa, camped out by a gorgeous beach town called Vada, and spent a few night in Rome, then back up the Adriatic Sea where we camped in a campsite where a train passed us by every 5 minutes, up to Bologna for a hot minute, witness the consumer hell known as Venice, ate at the only restaurant open past 9PM in Trento and back up to Berlin in 12 days.
With that said, it was one of the best road trips I’ve been on, partially because I haven’t been on many. The nice thing about being Europe is that you can pass borders of countries in just a few hours where it takes days to get through provinces in Canada. The drive itself was quite nice as you pass by some really stunning views along the way. Such as this castle in the mountains, in the middle of nowhere:
The second night was when we drove down to Cinqueterre, which is supposed to be one of the most amazing places along the cost. However, as luck would have it, we hit a thunderstorm and had to drive through some next level mountain roads in pitch darkness looking for a decent place to set camp. To demonstrate (please excuse my filming abilities):
Coming back from Paris, I had to attend to some business in Detroit, Michigan of all places. The transfer was insane. There was no direct flights from JFK to DTW so I had to land in JFK then hop in a cab to Laguardia to catch my flight to Detroit. I made the decision to not go home and tease myself with some peace…rather, I just went for the jugular. As they say “grin and bear it!”
Detroit was a lot cooler than I thought. I really think it’s a city on the rise with people who are super nice, generous and supremely optimistic. I have a lot of confidence this can be one of America’s great cities again.
I’m standing in Detroit and that’s Canada I’m looking at. I love this photo.
And this was behind me. Pure industry…
Zakka use to be located on Grand Street in Manhattan it was a spot I’d frequent in the city quite a few times. It moved to Dumbo a while back and I hadn’t visited since. This weekend I got the chance to head over there. Needless to say it didn’t disappoint. To describe the store I’d say “where toys and design meet”.
If you don’t know about toy collecting pre-Kidrobot this is where you need to go to get educated! All you’ll need to do is look around Don’t forget to check out the collection of design books too. Caution: First trip may make your brain hurt. Yes, it’s that intense.
Had to pick up a few things while in Paris of course. My friends always laugh at the things I buy when I travel. Yes, I’ll be known to buy some socks and undershirts while abroad. Why? Because when I’m home in NYC, I have no time to do such things. When I travel, there might be some down time so I will take that opportunity to make some necessary purchases…in addition to some indulgent pick ups of course. Anyway, that’s why you might see some odd things like a pack of oatmeal or some shaving cream…haha…
