A FEW GOOD WORDS WITH ERIN

I know, I know, I know.
This interview has almost one year now. But I had to show you… Just because I LOVE MADEME!
The styles, the girls (and the boys sure), the mixtapes, the famous roses leather jacket, and the most softest sweater of the world!
What? Is this too much? Okay but when I love, I do it for real.

-

The famous jacket/La fameuse veste:

MOODMAIL.

I wouldn’t really call it SPAM, but it sort of is. I’m talking about MOODMAIL. After all, it goers out to a group of people that I don’t know. There’s all these random attachments. I never asked to be on it—but I receive it regularly. That’s SPAM isn’t it? Well, this is one bit of SPAM that I actually look forward to. “Dave” who “Marshals” together all these images has a great eye for the beautiful and the weird. Here’s a selection of what I get in these emails. And just so you get an idea, this here represents about 1/10th of the entire email. I really like how he has chosen to keep it in email form. While this would normally annoy me, it doesn’t for some reason. I don’t have to go to a tumblr or blog…it just shows up randomly. There’s something nice about that.

BACK IN THE DAY

Just got back from my “Berlin – Roma 2010″ road trip this weekend, 3000km was quite a lot to cover in 10 days…phewf.

This didn’t happen on the trip, but there were a lot of reminiscin’ going on and as we are all children of the ’80s, this came up a lot. I remember only wanting to eat pizza, live in the sewer because of this. I also  had the biggest crush on Raphael. I even had a plush Raphael that transforms into a blanket to sleep in. So dope (I was 2 when the animated series first came out, cut me some slack)!

The good old days of movie making sans polished computer animation or blood and gore with a side of Vanilla Ice.

CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THESE BIRDS

There’s a small show happening in Brooklyn thats worth a look. It’s Thomas Murphy’s Above Brooklyn photo show. He gives us a look at the guys raising pigeons on the rooftops.

According to Wikipedia, ‘Mankind has practiced pigeon keeping for about 10,000 years in almost every part of the world’ – who would have guessed that this could be probable on the rooftops of Brooklyn. Thomas Murphy met a group of neighbors in the Spring of 2009 when he moved into an apartment adjacent to a pigeon coop. Mesmerized by a flock of up to 500 or so pigeons, Murphy formed a friendship with the pigeon flyer, only to uncover an underground subculture of pigeon fanciers. Talking to this group of men aged from 50 to 70 years old, visiting a number of local rooftops, Murphy explored a friendship as a means of garnering a first hand understanding of this dying past time. Under threats from a new generation who deem flying pigeons as ‘uncool’ combined with increased costs and new residents moving to buildings distasteful of this movement, the pigeon fancier community demanded to be preserved as a slice of Brooklyn history.
Thomas Murphy has chosen to exhibit a series of 24 images to represent over a years worth of documented encounters; each are sized at 12 x 18. Only two larger images are printed at 24 x 36, both of which, for him center the collection as the most powerful portraits of the story. The full body of work encapsulates the rapture of a hidden if not unknown example of man’s relationship with nature.

I went to Nakameguro meeting with a bag brand we are carrying in Reed Space soon called Hobo. Little did I know the company behind Hobo is Nonnative and they also produce this amazing travel magazine called Transit. It’s a really beautiful publication.

CANYONING JP.

There’s been so much happenin’ recently that I haven’t had as much time I would like to update the blog. There’s still stuff from my tokyo trip a few weeks ago that I didn’t get to post yet…So just imagine I’m still there!

CANYONING. What is this you say? Me too. I had no clue until Hiroshi told me about it a few months ago. You basically slide down a raging river ON YOUR BODY against smooth rocks. Then at various points, you shoot off 120 ft high waterfalls that drop you into tiny 10ft wide diameter ponds. Sounds fun! No, really, it was one of the rare “life-changing” experiences I have done. Lots of good canyoning can be had in Kusatsu which is about a 4 hr drive outside of Tokyo. So make a road trip, stay overnight at a nice hot spring “onsen” and then venture out for a day of canyoning and you can be back in Harajuku by 5pm! Some photos:

hfGPSmap
Japan takes GPS to the next level. I feel like I’m watching Ghost In The Shell or something…Every single building is fully mapped out in detail.

canyonsfirstdrop
OK so this was the FIRST DROP we did. 40meters high. Raging waterfall…and notice dude at the bottom is standing in knee high water! It looks physically ridiculous but there’s a part in the middle of the lake that’s deep that you have to land in. I was scared shitless.
