iPAD.

Anyone who follows me on Twitter knows that I was intent on waiting for the 3G+Wifi version of the iPad to release. NYC just isn’t that city yet that’s draped in glorious free wi-fi. The 3G is essential for this reason. But oh, Steve. The force in Mr. Jobs is strong. And he compelled me to make a midnight pilgrimage to the 5th Avenue 24-hour Apple Store and plunk down for the wi-fi only version of the iPad.
When the iPhone came out, it was an easy gadget to review. Pluses and minuses were easily evident. The iPad is totally different. We’re not comparing this to past phones. Or past laptops. This is a new category. A completely new experience. I was thinking of telling people, “If you’re this type of person, you should get. it. But if you’re that type of person, you shouldn’t.” Nobody really knows how this device will be used. On the bed? Definitely. On the couch? Hell yes. At your office desk? Probably not. At a cafe? Questionable. At a meeting in your  local city? Most likely. At a meeting in a foreign city? Less likely. The fact is, only time will tell.
Here are some facts. Its gorgeous. It’s rock solid. It’s lightning fast. You will not be disappointed with the device from a product standpoint. What you may be disappointed in is how little you end up using this $500+ hunk of glass.
I’ll report back in a few weeks on real world usage. But so far, I at least don’t feel ripped off.
Twitterで僕をフォローしている人なら知っているかと思いますが、僕は3G＋Wifi版のiPadが販売されるまで待とうと決めていました。ニューヨークはまだWifiし放題な都市ではありません。その為、3Gが必須でした。嗚呼、Steveさん。Mr. Jobsの力はなんて強いのだろう。彼の力によって、僕は5th Avenueにある24時間営業のAppleストアに真夜中の巡礼に行かされ、WifiのみのiPadを購入させられました。
iPhoneが発売された当初、評価するには簡単なガジェットでした。いい点と悪い点は簡単に見分けられました。でもiPadはまったく違います。過去の携帯と比べているわけではありません。これまでのラップトップでもありません。これは新しいカテゴリーです。まったく新しい体験なのです。「こういうタイプの人は、これを買ったほうが良い。でもこういうタイプの人は、買わないほうがいい。」、と皆に言おうと思っていました。でも、このデバイスをどのように使用されるか、まだ誰も知らない。ベッドの上？もちろん。ソファーの上？ピッタリ。オフィスのデスクで？たぶん、使わない。カフェでは？どうだろう。地元のミーティング？ありそう。海外でのミーティング？なさそう。時間が経てば分かる事です。でもいくつかのポイントを挙げると。美しい。丈夫。早い。プロダクト観点から見れば、買って後悔はしないと思います。でも、この500ドル＋のガラスの塊をどれほど使わないかによって、がっかりするかもしれません。
実際、現実社会での使い勝手を数週間後にレポートします。今のところ、ぼったくられたとは思っていません。
