Literally. I been down under in more ways than one. I haven’t been blogging as much as I would normally like. First there was an amazing and long trip to Australia which I’ll start showing you guys. Second, the moment I returned I was hit with an inexplicable malady. Had me laid out for days and I’m only beginning to feel some semblance of normalcy now. In some ways it was good. It put my health and well-being back in perspective and back to the forefront. It also gave me a proper view of the US Healthcare system and what a shit storm that is. Maybe I’ll write on that further at another time. For now, memories of Melbourne and Sydney. The main purpose of this trip was because I was invited to be the Keynote Speaker at a design/fashion conference and tradeshow called Buffet. But I was able to take in some more sights while I was in town…after all, it is a 30+ hr journey from NYC.
マジで。ダウンアンダーでした。通常よりブログアップしていませんでした。まず、オーストラリアへ素晴らしく、長い旅に出ていたので、これからアップする予定です。そして、帰国した直後に原因不明の病気にかかりました。おかげで数日間寝込んでしまい、やっと通常になりつつあります。良く言えば、僕の健康と体の管理の大切さを再認識させられ、これを第一に優先することに戻してくれました。アメリカのヘルスケアシステムについて見直す機会もあり、その酷さも痛感しました。それについては、また後日ブログに書くかもしれません。でも、今回はメルボルンとシドニーの思い出を。この旅の一番の目的、それは僕がBuffetというデザイン/ファッション会議とトレードショーのキースピーカーとして招待された事です。でも、それ以外にも滞在中には観光する事が出来ました．．．なにしろニューヨークから30時間以上の長旅ですから。
When in Australia. You have to try Kangaroo of course! It was quite good and apparently really healthy for you as well. Tho I can’t help but wonder if this contributed to my illness or not. At the least, it’s a pretty foreign animal I’m ingesting. オーストラリアに来たら。もちろん、カンガルーを食すこと！結構おいしくて、以外にも健康にいいらしいです。でも、これが僕の体調不良の原因にかかわっているか考えてしまう。まぁ、消化しているのがかわいい海外の動物だから、いいか。
When in Australia Pt. 2, you have to get Tim Tams—their local chocolate invention. Rumor has it that Pepperidge Farms bought the license and will distribute them to America. Rumor also has it that they won’t taste the same. オーストラリアに来たらパート２。Tim Tamsを食すべきーオーストラリアが開発したチョコレート菓子。噂ではPepperidge Farmsがライセンスを買収しアメリカでの販売をする。そして、噂では同じ味はしない、らしい。
Overall, Australia has a very sophisticated sense of design and aesthetic. On par with Norway, Sweden, Tokyo and Singapore. This Mentos gum is evidence of that. 全体的に、オーストラリアからはとても洗練されたデザインセンスと美的感覚を感じます。ノルウェー、スウェーデン、東京とシンガポールと並ぶほど。このMentosガムがその証拠。
…and also this cup of coffee with the nice design touch. They do have pretty damn good coffee down there.
．．．そして、このコーヒーカップのデザインもいい。かなり美味しいコーヒーも飲めます。
My co-pilot for most of the Melbourne leg of the trip was Frank from New Zealand who owns Qubic and Quarters. We always manage to share some good meals and stories. He snapped this nice photo of yours truly over dinner.
メルボルンの旅の期間、僕の副操縦士を勤めてくれたのはニュージーランドから来た、QubicとQuartersのオーナーのFrankです。美味しい食事と楽しい会話でいつも盛り上がります。ディナー中に彼がこのいい写真を撮ってくれました。

been a big fan for a long time. im actually studying abroad in australia right now. i think i might have missed you while you were in sydney. this is a long shot but if youre still around it would be awesome to get a beer. much respect.
