During the holiday season, I often like to get away from NYC and head to some remote location in some distant corner of the world. But for months now, I’ve been looking forward to my destination for X-Mas: Miami. Yup. Miami. But it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. I am road-tripping there in my new STPL Kia Soul! For some reason, I feel a need to explore and experience America again. It’s funny how things always have a different reference point for different people. Check out my Dopplr Page and you can see all the places I’ve visited and seen. So now, nothing seems more “exotic” to me than some Baltimore Old Bay, South Carolina BBQ or Georgia Sweet Shrimp. My co-pilot for the trip is Anne Ishii—whom I work with at Imprint Culture Lab. 年末年始はいつも、ニューヨークから離れ、どこか遠い世界の果てに行くのを好みます。でも、この数ヶ月間、僕はクリスマスの目的地に行くのを楽しみにしていました：マイアミ。そう、マイアミ。でも、目的地ではなく、その道のりが目的です。僕の新しいSTPL Kia Soulでロードトリップをします！なぜか、もう一度アメリカを探検し、体験する必要を感じていました。人によって感じることが違うのが面白いですよね。僕のDopplr Pageをチェックすれば今まで行った場所が見られます。なので、もう僕にとってはボルチモアのOld BayやサウスカロライナBBQやジョージアのスウィートシュリンプ以上に「エキゾチック」なものはありません。この旅の僕の副操縦士は、Imprint Culture Labで一緒に仕事をする、Anne Ishiiです。
All journeys south of NYC start on the NJ Turnpike. Anne and I tried to avoid I-95 as much as possible. But we decided to just to use 95 to fly through NJ, PA and Delaware and unofficially begin our road trip in Baltimore.
ニューヨークから南の旅は通常ニュージャジーターンパイクで始まります。Anneと僕はＩ-95をなるべく避けようとしましたが、結局95を使い、ニュージャジー州、ペンシルベニア州とデラウェア州を駆けぬき、ボルチモアで僕達のロードトリップが始まりました。

The secret to a pleasurable road trip is constantly switching with your co-pilot. People tend to drive till they are zombies and then switch. Don’t do that. I don’t think either of us drove more than 3 consecutive hours. Made for a much better experience.
車での旅を快適に過ごす秘訣は常に副操縦士と交代する事。良くゾンビーになるまで運転をした後、交代する人がいます。それはやっちゃいけません。僕達二人は3時間以上続けて運転しませんでした。快適なロード体験でした。
Anne and I agreed that the most beautiful state to drive through is the local roads of South Carolina.
運転して一番美しい州はサウスカロライナ州の一般道だと、Anneも僕も同感でした。
Make sure you check out Ralph’s BBQ if you’re in Roanoke, SC. Needless to say, we needed to be rolled out on a stretcher. Afterwards, we played some catch in the parking lot. It’s a good idea to bring some physical activity like frisbee, baseball gloves, etc to keep yourself distracted and active during the trip. Playing catch was fun but we both injured ourselves…haha. I think I pulled my diaphragm. (Make sure you watch the video below to see the car wash craziness we went through in Roanoke.
サウスカロライナ州のRoanokeに行くチャンスがあったら、Ralph’s BBQに立ち寄るように。僕達は食べすぎで運び出されないといけないくらい食べました。その後、駐車場でボールを投げ合いました。こんな旅にはフリスビーやベースボールグラブなどを持っていって体を動かすアクティビティーをする事をお勧めします。ボール投げは楽しかったが、二人ともケガしてしまいました．．．笑。横隔膜あたりを傷めた気がします。（下のビデオでRoanokeでのめちゃめちゃなカーウォッシュ体験をご覧あれ。）
Some great conversation can be had during a road trip. But it’s equally important to know when to shut the F up sometimes. ロードトリップでは凄くいい会話が出来ます。でも、同じように大切なのは、いつ黙っているべきかえを知ること。
