SOLE COLLECTOR STORY.

This is one of the most impressive articles ever written about Staple and myself. The story goes so deep into my history, I almost forgot some of it myself! I was like, “Oh shit! It’s right! That DID happen!” Kinda scary actually…The article starts with where and how I founded Staple…then goes into the history of Airwalk…and then finally how we intersected last year to do the STPLxAirwalk project. Ira LaFontaine from Sole Collector REALLY did his research and homework. Props to him for the well written piece.
Some minor corrections/clarifications I want to just add:
- We didn’t call the NYPD during the Nike SB Pigeon Dunk release. They came on their own. And thankfully so. For many kids who blew all the cash they had on the Dunks, the NYPD cops paid for their cab ride out of the neighborhood because thugs were waiting on all four corners to jump kids who got the kicks. Guess it’s not illegal to stand on a corner with a baseball bat tucked under your jacket.
- Our third customer was actually the Japanese guy (wassup Gorie!) who ordered 1000 tees. Our first, as Ira stated, was in fact Triple5Soul. Our second order was Union.
- Don’t count Starter out just yet. Watch out for some interesting things coming from Starter Black Label in the very near future.
- The Fila 96s. I admit. I succumbed to my inner-Detroit-Pistons-fan boy.
Again, props to Sole Collector, Nick and Ira. Great article and some excellent observations and points are made. Would love to hear people’s opinions….thanks!
これはステイプルと僕について書かれた記事の中で一番感心するものの１つです。僕の深い歴史をたどり、僕自身が忘れていた事まで！僕は、「そうだった、そんな事もあったな！」と思い出させてくれました。正直ちょっと怖い気もしましたが．．．僕がどのようにステイプルを創設し．．．次にAirwalkの歴史に入り．．．そして、去年STPL x Airwalkのプロジェクトがどのように繋がったのかについて書かれています。Sole CollectorのIra LaFontaineは本当によくリサーチをし、下調べが素晴らしかった。とても良く書かれている記事へpropsです。
少し、付け加えたい修正点と明確にしたい点があります：
ーNike SB Pigeon Dunkのリリースの時、僕たちはニューヨーク警察を呼んでいません。彼自身からやって来ました。ありがたくも。頑張って溜めたお金をDunksに使い果たしたキッズ達から不良達が街角でキックスを奪おうと待ち構えていたので、ニューヨーク警察はキッズ達に帰りのタクシー代を払ってあげました。ジャケットの中にバットを隠し持って街角で立っているのは違法では無いようです。
ー僕たちの３人目のお客様は日本の方（元気ですかゴリ！）で、１０００枚のTシャツをオーダーしてくれました。僕たちの最初のお客様は、Iraが述べた通り、Triple5Soulでした。２番目がUnionです。
ーStarterはまだまだやります。近い将来、Starter Black Labelから面白い事をやるのでお楽しみに。
ーThe Fila 96s。白状します、僕の中のデトロイトピストンファンにゆだねてしまいました。
