On the first we arrived to Paris, it was the annual Fete De La Musique (Day of Music) Festival. It’s unlike anything we have in NYC> Imagine Summerstage, but one in every single neighborhood of NYC! It’s pretty incredible. Each circle you go to has a different concert and live band or DJ playing. Respective cliques and subcultures gather and party all day. The whole city comes alive. With that comes some craziness. Suburbanites come from the outskirts to raise hell and ill shit usually goes down. You’ll see what I mean.
僕達がパリに到着した初日は一年に一回行われるFete De La Musique(音楽の日）フェスティバルが開催されていました。僕たちが見慣れているニューヨークのSummerstageが一つ一つの地区で行われている様な規模です！地区ごとに違うコンサートやバンドやDJのライブが開催されていました。色々なグループやサブカルチャーが一緒になって一日中パーティーします。都市丸ごとが生き生きしていました。それにちょっとやりすぎも。郊外からやってきた人たちが中心部に来て、暴れて、ばかげたことが起こります。どういう事か後で分かります。
Jay from BKRW is an excellent host for Paris. Jay, merci beaucoup pour tout. The free biking system they have in Paris (Velib), is awesome…when it works. But it’s an incredible example of urban development and community service functions. NYC needs to take heed. BKRWのJayはパリでとてもいい案内役でした。Jay、merci beaucoup pour tout。パリにある無料バイクサービス(Velib)は最高．．．機能すれば。でも、都市開発とコミュニティーサービス機関のとてもいい例です。ニューヨークも見習わなければ。

The Pigalle shop which hosted this particular concert we were at with Pain Au Chokolat performing. Pain Au ChokolatがパフォーマンスをしていたコンサートはこのPigalleショップが主催していました。

Someone started a fire on this motorcycle stand out in front of the building and we were literally one of the first ones on the scene to spot it. パリのSwat隊が今日の騒ぎのために用意万端。彼らはMetal Gear SolidのSnakeに見えます。とってもハイテクです。それもそのはず。誰かがこの建物の前に停めてあったバイクに火を付けて、僕達はその第一発見者でした。
We came back the next day just to check out the aftermath. From Triumphs to Tricycles in 5 minutes. 次の日に焼け跡を見に行きました。５分でTriumphsが三輪車に。

I haven’t been to Paris in around 20 years. It’s a long awaited return visit and I’m glad I have a good 9 days to really soak it in. Paris has me smitten. She is an incredible city. So many different layers for you to peel back and discover. It’s really vibrant, creative and fun. She juxtaposes history, art, modernism, beauty and grime so seamlessly. I find myself incredibly inspired. Again.
Main purpose of my trip? Business. Our favorite US tradeshow, Capsule Show, which shows in NYC and Vegas has recently started showing in Paris. So we are here to premier our Spring 2010 Collection; about a 2 months before it shows in the States! But in between setting up for the show, preparing our lookbooks last minute and dealing with printers in a foreign land, we were able to have an awesome time.

僕は約２０年ぶりにパリを訪れました。待ちに待った再会で、９日間の長い滞在でたくさんを吸収したいと思います。僕はパリに夢中です。彼女はすばらしい都市です。何枚もの層があり、一枚一枚剥くごとに新しい発見があります。活気にあふれ、クリエーティブで楽しい。歴史、アート、モダニズム、美と汚れが並置されている都市。とんでもなくインスパイアされます。繰り返しますが、この旅の目的は？ビジネス。ニューヨークとラスベガスで開かれている、僕達の大好きなアメリカのトレードショー、Capsule Showは最近パリでも開催しています。という事で、アメリカより２ヶ月早く、僕達の２０１０年春コレクションを初披露するためにやってきました！ショーの準備やギリギリまでのルックブックの編集と外国での印刷業者とのやり取りの合間に、僕達はとても楽しい時間を過ごしました。

The only problem with Paris is that there is so much to see and do that I hardly get enough face time with the bed. Gettin’ too old for this. たった一つの問題は、パリはあまりにもやる事や見るもが多いので、ベッドにいる時間が足りません。年取ったな〜。

We finally say goodbye to Florence. (I’m sure you’re completely sick of reading about it by now.) But what can I say? It was inspiring! For a treat, rather than flying to Paris, we would take a 12 hour train ride that looped us through Milan, Torino, Geneva and the French Alps including Albertville and Chamonix. We also opted for the daytime train which would then allow us to see the countryside and enviros. Train is a much better way to go than flying. Sure it takes longer…but the process is what it’s all about. I wish the American train system was as dope as Europe and Japan’s.

やっと、フィレンツェに別れを告げました。（もうフィレンツェについて読み飽きたでしょ？）仕方がありません。それだけインスパイアされました！ご褒美に、パリまで飛行機で移動する代わりに、ミラノ、トリノ、ジュネーブとアルベールビルとシャモニーを含むフレンチアルプスを経由する１２時間の電車の旅をしました。しかも、田舎の風景や景色を楽しむために昼間の列車を選択しました。飛行機より電車のほうがはるかにいい移動手段です。もちろん時間はもっと長く掛かりますが．．．着くまでの間の時間が大切なんです。アメリカの列車機関もヨーロッパや日本くらい良ければいいのに。
Where’s there a train, there are college kid backpackers. These guys decided to save a few bucks at the hostel and sleep on the platform instead. Don’t think mom and dad would approve of this behavior!

On the recommendation of Tomoka from LPH in Tokyo (who lived for some time in Florence) I visited some very unique and historic shops in Firenze.
The first is La Carta di Omero. A bookmaker and stationer that has been around since the 60s. His shop is a literal time capsule. I picked up a notebook and also a business card holder. He personalized the card holder right there on the spot for me so I got to see a bit of the process.
東京のLPHの（フィレンツェに住んでいたことのある）朋からのお勧めで、僕はフィレンツェの古くて、とてもユニークなショップに行ってきました。
最初はLa Carta di Omero。本や文房具を作って売っているお店で、６０年代から続いています。彼のショップはまるでタイムカプセル。ノートと名刺入れを購入しました。彼は僕の名刺入れをその場でカスタムしてくれたので、どのような手順なのか拝見できました。

Next spot is the infamous, Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella. Try saying that three times fast! I believe this is the oldest pharmacy in all of Italy, and possibly all of Europe. It dates back to 1612! Today, the incredible structure houses a modified pharmacy of sorts. They now sell higher end fragrances, cosmetics, candles and medicinal herbs. Still nothing beats entering this store and smelling the amazing pure scents and then getting the visual orgasm as you walk in. Simply cannot be duplicated. And when I think that this “pharmacy” architecturally murders anything in the USA, it really puts into perspective just how historic Europe is.
続いての場所は、有名なOfficina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella。この名前を３回早口で言ってみて！これはイタリアで最古の薬局とされていて、もしかしたらヨーロッパでも一番かもしれません。１６１２年創業ですよ！このすばらしい建築物の中では近代化された商品が取り扱われています。今は高級な香水、コスメ、キャンドルや薬効のあるハーブなどが売られています。このお店を入る途端に最高にピュアな香りがする上に、視覚的な歓迎もすばらしい。これはどこもマネができないでしょう。しかも、アメリカのどのものが建築的にも敵わないこの「薬局」は、ヨーロッパの歴史の深さを再び実感させられました。

The best way to get around Florence is by bike. It’s a relatively small city with tons of traffic and very narrow streets…hence, Biking is the hands down winner to check out a lot of sites quickly. But for some geek reason, I felt a need to try out these Segways in Florence. I know, I know…Segways are the new Rollerblades…but I just had to try this out. It was wack. So slow. Bad on cobblestone streets. Can’t hop curbs. The future ain’t here yet.
フィレンツェの中を移動する手段で最適なのは自転車です。比較的小さな都市で、渋滞も凄く、道も狭い．．．なので、色々な場所を速く回るには自転車が一番。しかし、オタクの僕は、なぜかフィレンツェでSegwayを試したかったんです。分かってます．．．Segwayはローラーブレードのようなもの．．．でもどうしても乗ってみたかった。最悪でした。遅いし。石畳の道に不向きだし。縁石を乗り越えられないし。未来はここでは通用しない。

Ya know for the past 6-8 weeks…I’ve been quite proud of myself from a health perspective. I’ve been seeing a trainer. Consistently sticking with a workout 3 times a week…eating well…and dropping about 14lbs as well as just feeling awesome.
Wow, what a few days in Europe will do. Here’s some highlights from my culinary experience in Florence. I shutter to think what Paris will bring.
Upon the first night’s arrival, I joined my friend Miguel who was also in town for his new job. We met up at Harry’s Bar which is the O.G. forefather of what we know in NYC as Cipriani’s. Pretty awesome way to start the trip. In fact, sitting at the next table was [NSFW!!] Petter Hegre and Luba…needless to say, it was difficult to concentrate on the food at times.
この6〜8週間は自身の健康面でとても頑張っていたと思います。トレーナーについてもらい、週3回運動をして、きちんと食べて、14lbsも痩せて、気分は最高でした。ワォ、数日間のヨーロッパ滞在は怖い。こちらがフィレンツェでの食事体験です。パリでは何が待っているか、考えるだけで身震いします。
到着した最初の夜、新しい仕事のために同じくフィレンツェを訪れていた友人のMiguelと会いました。ニューヨークのCipriani’sの先代O.G.であるHarry’s Barに集合。旅を始めるには最高のスタート。さらに、隣のテーブルに座っていたのは（次リンクは仕事場には適しません!!!）Petter HegreとLubaでした．．．言うまでもありませんが、食事に集中できませんでした。
Next up was the Twitter favorite: Il Latini. I asked on Twitter where I must try while in Florence and this spot was the majority favorite. VERY much a tourist trap, but the food was very good. 次はTwitterで大人気のIl Latini。Twitterでフィレンツェで食べる所はと聞いたら、こちらがお勧めされました。まさに観光客相手の場所でしたが、食事はとてもおいしかったです。

Aqua Panna…expensive and hard to find in the States…Here’s it like Poland Spring. Aqua Panna．．．アメリカでは手に入りにくく、高いが．．．ここではPoland Spring並。
Firenze style lunch. Roast turkey or salami sandwich or pate to go. Simple, cheap and tasty. フィレンツェ風ランチ。ローストターキーかサラミサンドイッチかパテのお持ち帰り。シンプルで、安くて、おいしい。
On the other side of the River Arno, you’ll find the locals who live in Florence, artists and independent creatives as well as students trying to live on the cheap. I liked it better than the Vuitton-Ferragamo-Gucci-Chanel-ified side of the Arno. And over here was the best gelato spot: La Carraia.
アルノ川の向こう側に住む人たちは、フィレンツェのアーティストや職人、または物価の安さから学生が多いです。ヴィトン−フェラガモ−グッチ−シャネル側のアルノより、こっちのほうが好きでした。こちら側のベストジェラート店：La Carraia。
Another spot on the radar was THE place for Florentine steak: Buca Mario. Unfortunately for me, I discovered on this trip I’m not a fan of Florentine steak. Too big. Too thick. Too fatty. Too undercooked. Too many tendons…just not for me i guess. The seafood calamari appetizer was the highlight for me.
もう一つの人気店はフィレンツェ風ステーキで有名なBuca Mario。残念ながら、この旅でフィレンツェ風ステーキは好きでないことに気づいてしまいました。大きすぎ。分厚すぎ。脂っこすぎ。レアすぎ。筋が多すぎ．．．とにかく僕に合いませんでした。僕にとっての一番は前菜のシーフードカラマリでした。

This steak kicked my ass. Couldn’t finish it. Not even close. このステーキに完敗しました。全部食べられませんでした。まったく。
Finally made it for some pizza, Italian style and opted to go for the people’s choice. Tripadvisor’s #1 rated Firenze restaurant, Osteria All’Antico Mercato. And for good reason too! Awesome service, friendly, low key, amazingly simple food and cheap! I highly recommend it as well! 最後に本場のピッツアにありつけて、みんなのお勧めのところに行きました。Tripadvisorでナンバー１に選ばれたフィレンツェのレストラン、Osteria All’Antico Mercato。一位に選ばれる理由も納得！最高のサービス、気軽、すばらしくおいしくて、安い！僕もお勧めします！

Florence wasn’t just all fun and games. We actually had some work to do! Pitti Uomo is one of the menswear markets earliest and most influential shows. This was the first for me to attend. I was not showing Staple, but rather, finding new brands for Reed Space to carry and also checking out the scene to see if it might be a possibility for Staple in the future. I was a little underwhelmed. I think after all these years of seeing the fashion magazines cover the show, and more recently, The Satorialists coverage, my expectations were really high. I thought every brand displaying would be on a very high level. But the fact is, it was similar to any other tradeshow in the sense that as a buyer, you still had to sift through some bullshit to find the little diamonds in the rough. I think we would want to pick up like 6-8 new brands we discovered or met at Pitti. And that’s out of 100s and 100s. The layout of Pitti is also interesting. It’s split up into little houses. Most tradeshows are in some massive convention center. I did like this better. It’s less daunting. Since it’s not so nice to take pictures inside of people’s booths, I took some aerial footage of the people. Check it out.
フィレンツェは楽しい時間だけではありません。仕事をしに来ているのです。Pitti Uomoはメンズウェア界で最も影響力のある、古いショーのひとつです。これが僕にとって初めての参加でした。Stapleを展示するためでなく、Reed Spaceのためにブランドを発掘し、今後Stapleを出展させる可能性を探りに行きました。正直なところ少しがっかりしました。色々なファッション誌でこのショーの特集がくまれ、最近ではThe Satorialistsの特集などもあり、僕の期待値は大でした。出展されるブランド、全てがとてもハイレベルのものだと思っていました。でも、実際は他のトレードショーと同じく、バイヤーとして輝くダイアモンドを見つけるためにはどうでもいいものをかき分けなければいけませんでした。Pittiで出会い、見つけたブランドの中で６から８ブランドを気に入りました。それは何百ものブランドのなかからです。Pittiの設計は面白かったです。それぞれ小さな家に分かれていました。ほとんどのトレードショーでは巨大なコンベンションセンターで行われます。僕はPittiのほうが好きです。気が遠くなるほど大きくないので。ブースの中から写真を撮るのはよくないので、人々を高空写真で撮りました。チェックしてください。
They say the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Well on the other side of this massive wall is Pitti. Pitti is literally located inside of an amazing fortress. Another example of the amazing architecture of Firenze. 隣（フェンスの向こう側）の芝生は青いといいますが、この巨大な壁の向こう側はPittiです。Pittiはすばらしい要塞の中に位置しています。フィレンツェのすばらしい建築物の一つです。
