Check out this. Saville Row meets Wembley Stadium. I love how Umbro used the aesthetic and functionality of suit tailoring and combined it with the needs of real athletes.
See…I wish we could utilize our Reed Annex space to really showcase projects like this. Kind of show an insight into how a tailor like Aitor works, and get a little historical lesson into the making of these England football kits. Hmmm…maybe I’ll make a couple of phone calls.
見てください。Saville RowとWembley Stadium。

I don’t get it Jeff. I understand that bespoke tailoring has been applied to athletic garments and that Umbro has approached this project as “how the body fits in the clothes rather than how the clothes look on the body” but I don’t see anything noteworthy let alone revolutionary in the end result. What I see are clothes that simply fit well and perform well. The same can be said of much athletic clothing, adistar and predator from adidas for instance. Also, they make a point of interviewing Rio Ferdinand, regardless of your taste, this guy is known for chucking on a bunch of expensive designer labels. He has no style. He just wears expensive shit. David James also, he was one of the group of players to choose the most embarrassing cream suit for the 1996 FA cup final that Liverpool ever had to wear. They were a laughing stock in horrible Armani White suits. I don’t mean to be so much of a downer. I love your blog. I love the Umbro Kim Jones Stuff, I love that new adidas slvr clobber but I think that this particular post is kind of a non event. Umbro getting some PR by “involving” big name players in the design process. I really don’t see a design angle here. I see a marketing one. Keep up the awesome awesomeness!!

when was the last time we saw anything really innovative and new ….? its all PR and marketing.. everything revolves around existing ideas and solutions.. just remixed…
