Back when I was in Barcelona, I visited Ricky’s wet dream of a sneaker collection. He graciously let me purchase some deadstock joints and one of them was this gem…The Nike Air Windrunner TR. Direct from 1988. Hasn’t seen the light of day in 21 years! That’s older than most of y’all!

So on Day One of my trip in Tokyo, I am having a very, very productive day. I’m rocking some major heat on my feet and I feel good! Talking with manufacturers for Staple Spring 2010. Check. Idiom 2011 with Hiroshi. Check. Soph/FCRB/Uniform Experiment visit. Check. New Balance future planning recap. Check. Reed Space x “Major Soccer Company from the UK” project. Check. (I’m like the Army….doing more before 9am than most people do all week.)
By the end of the day…I am pretty beat, but feel good about the day’s events. All of a sudden, I have this strange feeling that I have stepped in gum. Like my outsoles are sticking to something. I look under my shoes and see nothing. But it keeps happening! Strange felling! I look again…and THE HORROR! I will let the photos tell the story.
東京滞在初日はとても生産性の高い一日でした。僕はこのヤバい一足を履いているし、調子もいい！Staple Spring 2010の生産者たちとの商談。よし。ヒロシとIdiom 2011。よし。Soph/FCRB/Uniform Experimentを訪ねる。よし。先のNew Balance企画を再確認。よし。Reed Space x 「イギリスの巨大サッカー関連会社」プロジェクト。よし。(軍隊のようです。。。他の人が一週間でやる事を朝の９時前にすべて終らせる。) 一日が終わり。。。僕は結構疲れていたが達成感で気持が良かった。すると急に、ガムを踏んだような変な感触がしました。アウトソールが何かとくっついているような感覚。靴の底を見ても何もない。でも何回もその感覚がする。すごく変な感じ。もう一回見てみると。。。最悪！写真で見ての通りです。
Oh well…everything can’t go perfectly. I lost a beautiful shoe to one day of super-productivity. Some Shoo Goo and these are headed for permanent collection on the mantle. At least we know Nike really puts Air Bags into their shoes…even in the 80s.
仕方がない。。。すべてが完璧に行くわけがない。超生産性の高い一日のために一足の美しい靴をなくしてしまった。これはShoo Gooで直して常設展示用の棚行きです。Nikeは８０年代にも本当に靴にエアバッグを入れていた事がわかっただけでも良かった。
Dam, that’s some heat right there. You got me all worried about my old J’s now.

Ahh man, I can totally sympathize with that. That’s why “1 to rock, 1 to stock,” right? And you know the rule of thumb: 8 years or older, and it’s a risk to pull them out the icebox.
