BARCELONA 3.

My friend Ricky is a busy man. He owns the shops called LimitEditions in Barcelona that have some of the finest sneaker selections around. He also owns the Slam Jam Chapter of BCN known as Chikashitsu. He also owns the Opium BCN shop that has one of the best Jordan selections in the world. And if that wasn’t enough, he put together one of the illest collections of deadstock kicks I have ever seen. It’s not open to the public. It’s in a converted 5 bedroom apartment and it’s basically a shrine to all things kicks. What was supposed to be a 5 minute stopover turned into a 4 hour session of oooh’s, aaah’s and tears of joy. I picked up some H-E-A-T that I will show in the near future. Stay tuned.

Everytime I see AJ1′s, I cringe. Back when I was a sophomore or junior in high school, musta been roughly 1986-88 or so, the local Big Five eventually had a clearance sale of the red/black AJ1′s for… it pains me to say it… TWENTY-FIVE BUCKS!!!

Back in the day, it was kinda embarrassing to wear such “loud” shoes, so me and my dad (who was a balla btw!) bought a pair each, but we hardly wore ‘em. And you know, back in the day, you wore ‘em when you played in ‘em. It was less of a fashion statement and more of a basketball statement. If you wore those shoes, you had to fly like Mike. We felt awkward wearing those AJ1′s.

Funny how Big Five (and me and my dad, yeah I know) was literally sitting on a gold mine! Alas, I did what I did to all my old Nikes: threw ‘em out or donated them. Pity.
