Just got back from the biannual voyage to Las Vegas. This time it was for the MAGIC/Project Show showcasing our upcoming Spring 2009 Collection. MAGIC came correct with a new section called SLATE. Think higher end streetwear brands that are developing into collections…you know…like Staple. (Duh.)
But in all honestly, it was the first time we have shown in MAGIC (as opposed to Project) in over 5 years and it was much better this time around.
Anyway, between running around tradeshows, checking out brands, catching up with old acquaintances and running the $1-$3 NL Hold Em Tables at Ceasars, I didn’t have much time to shoot film.
半年に1回のラスベガスへの旅から帰ってきたばかりです。今回は僕達の2009年春コレクションを披露するためにMAGIC/Project Showに行ってきました。MAGICは改善され、今回SLATEという新しい部門を設けました。コレクションの中にハイエンドのストリートウェアがあるブランド用に。。。Stapleみたいに。率直に言うと、この5年間ではじめてMAGICで見せますが（いつもはProjectでした）、今回はとても良かったです。トレードショーをまわって、他のブランドをチェックしたり、知り合いと近況を話たり、Ceasarsの1ドルから3ドルを賭けるNL Hold Emテーブルでギャンブルしたりと忙しかったので、あまり写真が撮れませんでした。

I did manage to catch up with Tony, Moses and Damon from InCase for a sick dinner at N9NE at The Palms. Without a shred of doubt the BIGGEST lobster tail I have ever seen, much less consumed. It was awesome.
InCaseのTony、MosesとDamonと一緒にThe PalmsのN9NEというレストランでやばい夕食をとりました。間違いなく僕が見た中でも食べた中でも一番大きなロブスターテール。最高でした。

I recently took a quick weekend trip to Toronto to visit some family and friends. I decided to try out the new airline called Porter. I was extremely pleased with the experience. Porter services Toronto and nearby points. It’s inexpensive and the service is really good. Direct flights from JFK to Downtown Toronto go for about $99 each way. You take this small prop Bombardier plane that is actually very comfortable and modern. If you ever need to head to our up north friends, I highly recommend Porter Airlines.
先日家族や友人に会うため、トロントまで短い週末の旅をしました。Porterという新しい航空会社を試すことにしました。とても満足した空の旅でした。Porterはトロントと近隣の都市の便を運行しています。安くて、サービスもとても良い。ニューヨークのJFKからダウンタウントロントまでは片道で99ドルぐらいです。とてもモダンで快適な小さなボンバルディアのプロペラ機に乗ります。みなさん、北に旅をするとき、Porter Airlinesをお勧めします。

Re:Porter is one of the best inflight magazines I’ve ever seen. It felt just like one of my favorite magazines, Monocle. Low and behold, I check for Creative Direction and it’s none other than Tyler Brule and Winkreative. These guys do some really nice work.

I was really impressed with Toronto. I could feel the positive energy there. Similar to what I felt in Berlin or Beijing. Be on the look out for this once sleepy city. And here’s a pleasant surprise. If you find yourself out late and need a bite, residents have the luxury of one of the best hot dogs I have ever eaten. They are offered on carts throughout the city and it’s cheap. You pick your own toppings. This one here is Mayo and Bacon Bits…Hmmm…
僕はトロントに感動しました。ポジティブなエネルギーが感じられました。ベルリンや北京に似た感じです。このかつて眠っていた都市に注目です。もし夜遅くに小腹が減っていたら、僕が食べた中で一番のホットドッグ屋があります。市内のあらゆるところでカートで売られています。しかも安い。トッピングも選べます。これはマヨネーズとベーコンビッツ。。。うまい。。。

We just did a t-shirt design for Threadless.com in their “Select” section. The business darlings are known for their democratic voting system of deciding what designs get made into tees. These guys are doing some amazing shit. Their “Select” section is for more established blokes who get to bypass the voting system. I sort of wish we were just part of the voting mix, but I enjoyed working on this nonetheless.
僕たちはThreadless.comの「セレクト」部門のためにTシャツをデザインしたばかりです。この会社では、どのデザインがTシャツになるかは、民主的な投票方法で決めることで知られています。彼らはかなり凄いことをやっています。「セレクト」部門は、もっと確立された人のためで、投票システムが免除されます。ちょっと投票候補の中に入って見たかったのですが、この仕事は楽しんで出来ました。

I’ve been working on an editorial piece with Urb Magazine for quite sometime. Raymond Roker and I sat down early this year to discuss some things I wanted to see coming out of the print world. What we came up with is called “1-2-1 with jeffstaple”. Each issue, I will be speaking to someone, “one-to-one”, on a topic that related to the theme of the issue. This feature in the print mag will also be complimented by a video piece. I liked 1-2-1 because it’s also a play on my area code, 2-1-2.
My first subject is Bobbito Garcia. Look out for the new issue of Urb with Obama, Jay-Z and Pedro Winter on the cover. (It’s an illustration, don’t have a cow.) Dorothy Hong took the amazing photos and Joey Angerone handled the A/V. Sit back and enjoy. We had to cut out a lot to make this a web 2.0-friendly 4 minutes….but I’m hoping to release an uncut version shortly.
Future subjects have included: Marc Ecko, Yonehara Yasumasa and Leonard McGurr aka Futura 2000.
僕はUrb Magazineとの社説を少しの間模索していました。Raymond Rokerと僕は今年の上旬に、活字の世界でどの様なものを求めているかを話しました。そこから、「1-2-1with jeffstaple」にありつきました。毎回、誰かと「1対1」で毎号のテーマについて話します。これは雑誌に含まれる以外にビデオクリップにもなります。僕の市外局番が2-1-2ということもあって、1-2-1を気に入りました。

Probably one of the last music festivals of the summer. All Points West in Liberty State Park, NJ is an amazing place to catch some shows. You start with a nice ferry ride from Downtown Manhattan to the Park. Then you get stunning views of Manhattan, Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. The highlights I wanted to check out were The Roots
夏最後の音楽祭だと思います。ニュージャージー州のLiberty State Parkで開かれるAll Points Westはショーを見るには最高の場所です。ダウンタウンマンハッタンから公園まではステキなフェリーの旅から始まります。そして、マンハッタン、エリス島と自由の女神の絶景が見られます。僕が見たかったアーティストはThe RootsとRadioheadでした。
My friends Maurizio and Marisa came along on the same ferry. 同じフェリーに乗った友達のMaurizioとMarisa。

In preparation for the Beijing Olympics, Nike hosted a little Dim Sum get together in Chinatown at the Golden Bridge Restaurant (50 Bowery). They even arranged for lion dancers to come prancing through the restaurant. Gotta love the traditional form of dance now updated with the Air Max 90 Currents!
