THE NEW! NEW YORK TIMES.

newsizeNYTIMES
The new size of The New York Times…in a more convenient take home version.
I like the new size. Its taking me some getting used to. I’m having trouble perfecting the whole “flip in half and then half again” technique.

Yo, they did that here in Dallas with the whole new size thing too but they left out alot of the normal content. It’s like a newspaper for dummies.

I remember seeing this while ago, when I was at Parsons. I remember taking a typeface design class that was taught by James Montalbano of Terminal Design. I’m sure he did some work on the Interstate Highway typeface. I wish I could recall what James said about the typeface (,if I wasn’t so sleepy in class) but to keep this positive. He is really a honest-to-goodness person.

They did that with the Financial Times Asia edition a few years back and it was awful, a real piece of shit.

Physical changes like that, including a few years back when they decided to do those miniature versions of womens magazines says a lot about the direction of paper publications.

You pointed out a few publications that still do a good job competing with online. Online is driving these publications to be better and weeding out the crap. People go online for crap so crap is readily available but with paper it is viewed with a higher expectation and periodicals like THEME meets it -sorta, though I don’t know why that thing is so goddamned thing if they only come out with 4 a year
